Trimble NIS is an advanced network information system for water, gas and district heating utilities. With Trimble NIS, utilities are able to document and manage network assets digitally in a centralized manner.
Trimble NIS provides a comprehensive view of the utility’s physical network by creating an intelligent virtual model - a digital twin - of the network with integrated GIS, network topology, and support for asset lifecycle management.
Over time, this intelligent network model accumulates data about assets, their structure, location, and operation, and becomes the exact digital replica of the utility’s physical network.
On the top of that data, Trimble NIS uses intelligent applications for
- Maintenance
- Asset Management
- Network Calculations
- Network Investment Management.
Maintenance
Trimble NIS Maintenance offers extensive support for the maintenance of energy and water supply networks. With the application, repair, inspection and maintenance works can be planned and scheduled based on budget and resources. Maintenance data can also be analyzed and reported for investment planning. The data can be viewed and captured in the field by using mobile devices.
Key benefits
- Cost savings in asset management
- Faster maintenance planning and budgeting
- Improved fieldwork efficiency
The functionality enables calculation of water and district heating network data in Trimble NIS. The calculated network is always up-to-date and calculations can be repeated whenever the network changes. The results can be utilized widely in operation, maintenance and general planning. When the calculation model is maintained in the network information system and not in a separate calculation software, the calculation results can be obtained faster. The results are viewable in the network information system together with the network, customer and maintenance data.
Key benefits
- No separate calculation model required
- Fast and easy calculation with the quality data maintained in network information system
- Calculated network is always up to date
- Wide sharing of calculation results is easy
Asset Management
Trimble NIS Asset Management tools enable comprehensive analysis of water, gas and district heating networks. Assets properties, such as status, condition, location, age, and areal consumption can be analyzed for the calculation of present value and re-investment cost. Asset management tools provide the basis for making well-founded investment decisions and managing pipe renovation debt.
Key benefits
- Exact knowledge of the current value of network assets
- Reasonable and transparent fee structure
- Well-founded long-term investment decisions
- Efficient focusing of short-term investments
Network Investment Management
The Network Investment Management (NIM) application is a solution for comprehensive management of network investments - from investment planning to monitoring and analyses. Utilities face various investment management challenges when the constantly updated information required in planning is fragmented into various calculations and systems and maintained by different people.
With NIM, the information (such as budgets, estimated costs and actual costs) needed to manage network investments is available in a single location and updated automatically in conjunction with, for example, network plan updates. In this way, the information remains up to date and fully reliable.
The application can be used to analyze the effect of investments on the replacement value and current replacement cost of the network as separate key figures. Other key figures, such as technical network calculation results and figures describing other network features, can also be utilized to plan and prioritize investments.
Key benefits
- Up-to-date information for investment management in a single location
- Utilization of changes in network value to prioritize and manage investments
- Utilization of building costs and technical network calculation results to prioritize and manage investments
