Book traversal links for Improved Planned Outage Work
CHALLENGE
How to optimize planned outage work
Prior to deploying the Trimble system for network and outage management, Springfield, IL-based City Water Light & Power (CWLP) planned outage work consisted of crews dispatched on weekends or evening to not disrupt the end customer. Once onsite, the crew would only then develop a plan based on their experiences and what they could accomplish in the time allotted.
SOLUTION
Trimble Distribution Management system enables detailed plans, switch orders and simulations ahead of time
After CWLP deployed the Trimble Network Information (NIS) and Distribution Management Systems (DMS), they could do detailed plans, switch orders and simulations ahead of time, so when crews arrived on site, they could quickly, safely and effectively begin planned outage work. Prior to deploying Trimble NIS and DMS, CWLP crews would arrive at job sites for planned outages, reference paper maps and manually determined switch orders and plans.
BENEFITS
Reduced planned outage time by 10% - 20%
- Saved 30 minutes per job by doing switching orders in advance, equating to a savings of 3,900 man hours annually
- Increased confidence in safety through enhanced switch orders and status
- Boosted customer satisfaction by minimizing outage duration times
